I received my bachelor’s degree in Human Nutritional Sciences at the University of Manitoba and completed my Dietetic Internship with the Winnipeg Regional Health authority. I am a member of Dietitians of Canada and registered as a dietitian with the College of Dietitians of Manitoba.
As a registered dietitian I provide nutrition counselling on a variety of nutrition related concerns. My main focus is on providing clients with guidance on eating for digestive health, including those with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Celiac Disease, gluten sensitivity, food intolerances, food allergies, and those requiring the Low FODMAP diet. I am also a certified Craving Change (TM) facilitator and provide this program on a one-on-one basis and in groups.
I have written articles and developed resources on food safety, managing diabetes nutritionally, eating for arthritis, infant feeding, and nutrition during pregnancy. I have also appeared on the local news multiple times to talk about digestive relief through nutrition and healthy eating.
I discovered my fascination and love for nutrition while trying to find relief from my own IBS symptoms and dealing with my adult onset food allergies. I understand the frustrations that come with needing to be careful about what you eat, and the difficulties that eating in social situations brings. As a digestive health specialist, I offer my nutrition expertise, and my personal insight to clients in order to help them explore how food can reduce or manage their symptoms. Eating foods should be enjoyable, not painful!
To me, nutrition and healthy eating is not about eating salads all day, or counting calories or grams of fat. It is about eating a variety of foods that provides your body with the nutrients it needs, as well as the enjoyment that your taste buds crave. I do not believe that foods should be labeled as “good” or “bad”. They should just be called FOOD. After all, they didn’t chew up your favourite pair of shoes or colour on your walls with crayons.
I recognize that everybody has different goals, and every body has different needs. I explore these my clients and work together with them to create a nutrition plan that is right for them and their lifestyle.
